Trial and error : It is one of the most common method for solving problems. We try to solve the task until we suceed in it(many reapeted attempts) or until we give up. We keep trying with many different approaches. + the term was devised by C. Lloyd Morgan
Hill climbing: With this method of solving a problem, we start at the begining of the task and solve it bit by bit, with each solution and every step moving closer to solving the whole problem.
Means ends analysis:(Newell and Simon 1972) This method is know for controling search in solving problems in computer programs and also mathemathical proofs. It's more complicated method. As first step we solve a problem by considering the obstacles that stand between the initial problem state and the goal state. The elimination of these obstacles are then defined as (simpler) subgoals to be achieved. All in all it is based on the concept that 'every attainable end is in itself a means to a more general end.'

And maybe it is also important to add that heuristic is a "rule of thumb" that provides a best-guess solution to a problem.
