those two major measures of memory are very important, thus it's crutial to know basics about them :
Recall in memory refers to the retrieval of events or information from our past. Along with encoding and storage, it is one of the three core processes of memory.
Recognition memory is the ability to recognize the events, objects, or people that already encoutered our memory in the past. When the previously experienced event is reexperienced, this environmental content is matched to stored memory representations, eliciting matching signals.

Re: There are two major measures of memory: recall and recognition. Characterize them briefly.
In both measures participants are first presented with a set of stimuli and after a delay they are tested. However there is a difference in the way the testing is carried out. In recall, participants are asked to name as many of the elements of the stimuli as they can remember. In recognition, upon testing, participants are presented with the same elements as before with some additional other elements. Their task is to recognize which elements they had seen before and reject the ones that had been added to the second set of stimuli. So the task of the participants is to produce the elements from memory (remember) in recall tests and recognize in recognition tests.
