How is skill memory different from semantic memory?

Skill memory is the memory of doing things, the way we remember the procedures of the actions we carry out. Semantic memory is where the knowledge and the memory for facts are stored. Although both of them are types of long-term memory, skill memory belongs to the implicit memory (not conscious) while the semantic memory is a type of explicit memory (conscious). An example of skill memory would be the ability to use a fork when eating. The semantic memory intervenes when for example we remember some facts we learned in class like names of some important psychologist in the history.

Skill memory is implicit and does not require conscious control or attention whereas semantic memory is explicit and does require conscious control and attention.

Skill memory is memory for doing things, ex riding a bike, and one can say that it comes automatically. Although semantic memory involves our knowledge about the world
