Heuristics: Rules of thumb that provide a best-guess solution to a problem. Includes trial & error, hill climbing and means-end analysis
Algorithm: A procedure that is guaranteed to solve a problem. (addition, subraction, division, etc.) If applied correctly, a correct answer is inevitable. The downside is that it is cost-effective because one must attend to all possible states.
