Amnesic patients do behave differently in explicit and implicit memory tasks. Most commonly they have problems with completing explicit memory tasks but manage implicit memory tasks (for example tying one's shoelaces or typing on a keyboard). With practice they can get better at implicit tasks but they can't remember how and when they learned them.
