Phonemic restoration occurs when phonemes that are actually missing from a word are still perceived. An experiment was conducted to see how strong this effect is. During the experiment the participants heard a recording of a sentence. One of the words was interrupted with a cough, however, none of the participants could later indicate the position of the cough. The effect occurs because we are aided by the context and a part of the word. Our brain just "fills in the blanks".
Word superiority effect is when letters are easier to perceive when they are in a word rather than in a random sequence.
Word frequency effect states that words that are more frequently used are responded to quicker than words that are not so popular (people will respond to words like 'home' quicker than to words like 'hike').
