Re: What can be learned about attention from Multiple object tracking experiments (Pylyshyn)?
First of all, people may track between 4-5 objects at the same time. Even if the disappear for a certain time, due to occlusion, or cross one another. However, we are limited to tracking either their position OR properties. It is said to be preattentive, hence, we do not have access to the properties of the objects we track. We solely know their location and identities, without binding these data with their perceptual properties.
Furthermore, MOT experiments have shown that we prioritized when attending to objects in the environment. Thus, MOT points to the objects present at the time and then we may selectively attend to one of them, if necessary.
