Re: Two ways in which information is stored in the brain.
Our brain stores every information in a different way, the way it is stored depends on our experience with it( every memory/person/activity/object etc. )
Sensory memory : keeps sensory information for a few seconds or less after an item is perceived. The ability to describe some item after a short observation is very good example od sensory memory. This information is stored for a brief time and we can not always really on it(later with time we can add some points because we think it was so -easy changeable )
+ 3 types (iconic,echoic,haptic)
Short-term memory : Its capacity is also very limited and lets us remember things without any rehersals for a period of several seconds to a minute.
+ encodes information acoustically
Long-term memory: This type of memory can store much more information and for definitely longer time(sometimes for whole our life). We need more time or practice (constant repeating) to make some data stay in the long -term memory ( hippocampus is crucial here)
+ encodes information semantically

Also very important procces that is taking part in our brain connected with those terms is consolidation - the process that transfers new memories into a state in which they are more resistant to disruption. Simply taking a memory from sensory/short-term memory to the long- term memory.

Groups of neurons that fire together & wire together (Hebbian learning) and the activities of cell assemblies.
