Re: What is the difference between how experts and novices solve problems?
Experts solve problems faster with a higher success rate, however only in a particular field.
-Experts Possess More Knowledge About Their Fields=reproducing positions on a chessboard that they have seen briefly. The reason as to why experts (chess masters in this case) perform better than novices is that they are able to recognize the specific arrangemenets of pieces while reproducing the positions.
-Experts' Knowledge is Organized Differently From Novices'=when dealing with physics problems novices sort the problems based on surface characteristics (similarity of objects) wheras the experts sort problems based on structual features (general principles of physics).
-Experts Spend More Time Analyzing Problems=experts try to understand the problem before start solving it.
It is important to note however that expertise is only an advantage in the expert's speciality.
